Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?

The 5th Regional Conference on Labour Migration organised by LO-Norway Partners in Asia and the Middle East at Rotana Hotel,Amman-Jordan
The 2 days conference was attended by the Arab Trade Union Confederation(ATUC), ILO, GEFONT,LO NORWAY, FES, BWI,Trade Unionist from the Middle East and also from the Asia countries. MTUC was represented by Bro Zul Thye,MTUC-MRC Coordinator.
On the day 1 of the conference,the discussions were reviewing on Kuala Lumpur Conference on what has happened in 2016,short review of the recomendations from LO Norway last regional migrant conference in Kuala Lumpur, Global compact for safe,orderly and regular migration and sharing experience from receiving countries. The experiences in union to union cooperation in organizing migrant workers was shared among all the participants.
On the 2nd day,
the topic of discussion are the standard contracts for the migrant workers and role of the migrant workers in the trade Union.
We are sharing the best practices that have been achieved in the last 2 years in terms of organizing and collective bargaining for the migrant workers.
All the trade unionist also raised the main challenges that we are facing in promoting the rights of migrant workers including the rights to join union,rights to be part of the collective bargaining and the rights to lead union and vote.
