<p>Niosh chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said a memorandum was submitted to the
Treasury during a pre-Budget meeting recently proposing for a tax rebate. </p>
<p>The institute is in the midst of submitting a list of equipment to the Treasury.

<p>“These items are expensive, especially those made of rubber. </p>
<p>“Often, small and medium industries cite high cost as the reason for not
using protective personal equipment,” he told reporters after opening a
two-day seminar on personal protective equipment themed “Standards, Regulations
and Best Practice” jointly organised by Niosh and Draeger Safety at the
Equatorial Hotel here yesterday.</p>
