PUTRAJAYA: The Perdana Fellows Programme shows the Government acknowledges the importance of millennials, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says.
The Prime Minister said the Government decided to continue the programme into its fifth year as it saw how it could benefit Malaysia’s talented youths.
“It reflects the Government’s commitment, and shows that we acknowledge the role of the millennial generation.
“We believe that whether a country succeeds or fail, is dependent on its talent base.
“Therefore, we must create many programmes and pathways for our millennials, who are our talent base, so they can be exposed to the best mentoring programmes, which will help sharpen their leadership skills,” said Najib at the handover ceremony of the 2017 Perdana Fellows Programme here yesterday.
He said the internship programme, in which fellows will be serving Cabinet ministers for six months, will give them insight into how challenging it is to run a government.
He said being able to list Perdana Fellow on the CV was invaluable.
“As a Perdana Fellow, you will be placed side by side with those who are in charge of making policies and government decisions,” Najib said.
Earlier yesterday, Najib took time off from his tight schedule to join staff of the Prime Minister’s Department at its annual Hari Raya do at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Special Functions Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong were also present.
