Parts of Penang Hospital flooded, patients and babies moved to other wards

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 5 — Flash floods early this morning hit parts of the Penang Hospital, forcing the evacuation of 104 patients and four infants to other unaffected wards as a safety precaution.
State health director Datuk Dr Sukumar Mahesan confirmed that the transportation unit and the lower levels of Block C and Block D of the hospital including four wards and the Neonatal ward were affected by the flash flood.
“The hospital director issued the order to relocate the patients and the exercise was conducted between 2.30am and 5.30am today,” he said in a statement.
He said a total 104 patients and four newborns have to shifted to unaffected wards in the hospital.
“There were no untoward incidents and all patients received proper care in the relocation,” he said.
All vehicles at the flooded area were also shifted to higher ground.
“Outpatient and inpatient medical services are as usual and ambulance services is also still in operations,” he said.
He urged the public to stop spreading wrong information about the flood situation in the hospital so as not to cause panic amongst the patients there.
