Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
SHAH ALAM, May 31 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) is still waiting for response from the PKR-led Selangor government on the allocation of a suitable site to build a training centre for private workers.
Its secretary-general, N.Gopal Kishnam said the training centre had been long awaited by the congress as it would also serve as venue for it to hold international and regional conference.
“It is important at this material time for the Selangor government to allocate a piece of land to MTUC for the construction of a training centre. Owning a building could reduce the expenses of MTUC which have to rent hotels to hold large conferences,” he told Bernama.
