Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
They have now been staying in the hostel as the company closed two months ago
after working just for seven months and were compelled to collect firewood for
cooking as they have no money to buy cooking gas, said a worker Kumar Dorji.

Those victimized are Suresh Shaha of Dhanusa, Santa Bahadur Tamang of Bhojpur,
Rhishiram Chaudhari of Dang, Nanda Lal Ranabhat of Kaski, Pradip Yadav of Siraha,
Ram Kumar Yadav of Dhanusha and Ganesh Bahadur of Dhankuta, among others.

They were sent there by the Noor Overseas of Nepal, they said.

They were disgusted with the manpower as it did not take any step for their
rescue even after several appeals.

Of the 170 Nepalis who were working at the company, 45 are still staying in
the hostel, 55 have gone out to make their livelihood and 70 are still working
at the same company, the victims said.

Despite their interest to return home, they have been assured of providing
work later.

At the same time police had arrested Girsingh Bagale and Ganesh Pachabhaiya
from the hostel on March 29 and released them after 15 days.

Similarly, severely injured Ganesh Rai has been bearing expenses himself as
the company has not provided any facilities to the workers.
