Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun says cooperation with neighbouring countries is effective in curbing any terrorism activities.
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun says Malaysia remains a safe destination for tourists.
He said apart from the efficiency of the authorities in addressing all kinds of threats in the country, the police have always been working together with international security agencies to curb terrorism.
“For the time being, I can assure that police will always embark on continuous prevention measures to curb any terrorist attack,” he told Bernama yesterday.
He was responding to a travel advisory issued by the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office advising its citizens against travelling to all islands off the coast of eastern Sabah from Kudat to Tawau, including Lankayan, Mabul, Pom Pom, Kapalai, Litigan, Sipadan and Mataking.
Fuzi said Malaysia has strong ties and cooperates closely with foreign authorities, particularly in information sharing, and that this has made the monitoring on all kinds of terrorist activities to be done more effectively.
“For example, in Sabah, the police are working with the Indonesian security agencies to curb the infiltration of Abu Sayyaf as well as Islamic State elements into this country.”
