PONTIAN: Consumers should report hypermarkets, sundry shops and supermarkets selling any food item with an expired shelf life.
Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said reports should be backed with evidence of the food item and receipt of purchase.
“Most of us have smartphones, so you can also take photos of the items with the expired dates,” he added.
Tee said state authorities would not compromise on any of the outlets selling perishable goods and canned food which had expired.
He said although there were no reports received as yet on expired food items sold in Johor, enforcement officers would keep being on their toes.
“We don’t want consumers to be put at risk,” he added.
He said the state Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry enforcement division had 105 officers to go on inspection rounds.
Tee said the officers would also check if the price tag ruling was being adhered to at the various outlets.
