Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has received over 30,000 feedback relating to an online survey on the proposals by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) to improve the pension scheme.
According to an EPF statement, the number of feedback obtained is as at 1pm today since the survey was opened yesterday via the myEPF website.
“EPF encourages members to participate in this discussion to ensure a comprehensive decision among EPF members,” said the statement.
Recently EPF launched four initiatives to improve the pension scheme, including standardising the full withdrawal age with the minimum retirement age as set by the government.
Three other proposals are to coordinate the minimum contributions with the minimum age laws, continue dividend payments from 75 years to 100 years and introduce Syariah compliant retirement savings as collateral to existing schemes.
“Information on the EPF improvement scheme and survey can be obtained via the i-Akaun by obtaining the activation code in any 67 EPF branch nationwide, EPF kiosks or by contacting the EPF call centre at 03-89226000,” said the statement.
The survey will last for two weeks and ends on May 5.
The proposals can be implemented as early as next year if good feedback is received from members, the statement said. – Bernama, April 22, 2015.
