Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
The COVID-19, an unprecedented crisis internationally, is having an extraordinary impact on the lives and livelihood of workers and society in ways never seen before. While the government has sought to address some of the problems arising from this pandemic, many workers have been subjected to employers’ unlawful deduction of salaries and forced unpaid leave, among others.
MTUC has chosen to address these problems by holding online panel discussions, being another MTUC initiative to create awareness amongst workers of their rights and to advise them accordingly and, if necessary, provide representation.
Panellists, noted in their fields of expertise, will discuss varied issues affecting workers that involve socioeconomic issues, legal rights, trade union representation and government’s initiatives to address the pandemic faced by our nation.
