Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said the rate decided by the Cabinet
Committee on Foreign Workers at a meeting early this month would not be changed
despite claims by Malaysian Foreign Workers Recruitment Agencies Association
that the cap imposed was too low.
<p>"We have decided that the maximum service fee should be RM2,500 and there
is no change in this.</p>
<p>"However, my ministry will study the various implications arising from
this decision on the industry," he told reporters after chairing a post
Cabinet meeting here Wednesday.
