SCHOOL authorities have the right to take action against canteen operators who charge too much for the food provided to pupils, Oriental Daily reported.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the school authorities could terminate the contracts with the operators if the food provided by them did not meet the required standards.
Chong was asked to comment on a report on social media that a canteen operator in a primary school charged RM4 for a meal that had a very small portion.
On another issue, Chong said the Education Ministry has instructed its officers to look into a complaint that a school in Subang Jaya collected the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for its computer classes on behalf of the computer company which provided the service.
He said a report would be submitted to the ministry after the officers meet with the school authority.
Recently, some parents from SJK (C) Tun Tan Siew Sin had complained that they needed to pay GST for the computer classes.
