KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 702 employers had registered their foreign domestic helper application on the Immigration department newly launched Maid Online System.
As of noon today, 25,719 of people had visited the page, http://maid-online.imi.gov.my, that started its operation on Jan 1.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said some employers failed to complete the registration process as they could not meet with application requirements.
“The page is opened to all visitors to understand the requirements and procedures of the application, get the basic and detailed information before they start the registration process.
“The department detected some errors in registration steps after the page launched. Immediate steps have been taken to make sure the system is running in line with the purpose of the programme,” he said in a statement.
The system was designed to make it easier for employers to apply permits for foreign domestic helpers fast, accurate and at cost-efficient rates.
The cost to hire a maid using the system is around RM1,600 to RM2,500, which includes levy, deposit and processing fee among others.
Mustafar added employers who need foreign helpers but do not want to use the system can still register with eligible agents.
“Employers are recommended to prepare all required documents before starting their registration to safeguard a smooth process.”
During the tabling of the 2018 Budget in November, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced that the government will allow employers to hire foreign domestic helpers directly from nine selected countries without having to go through agents.
The nine source countries are Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.
