Women’s Leadership Workshop and CBA Roundtable Discussion
MTUC in collaboration with Solidarity Center organized a one day workshop on Women Leadership and CBA Round Table Discussion today in Kuching Sarawak. The workshop was coordinated by Bro Rudy and Bro Zul Thye of MTUC HQ. It was also facilitated by Sarawak MTUC Sarawak Division Secretary Bro Andrew Lo and Sis Hajah Hadiah Leen. Bro Wilibordus Balawala from Solidarity Center was also present at the workshop. A total of 26 female participants from various sectors within their respective unions came together to enhance their knowledge in trade union.
The objective of the workshop was to help women unionists lead the trade unions more effectively and to increase their knowledge of union governance. In addition, a roundtable discussion was held among the participants to discuss and provide proposals that assist women in securing their benefits and work in the Collective Agreement.
Bro Rudy has presented some statistics on the involvement of women in the trade unions in Malaysia. Group discussions and group work were also held to find out more about what issues involving female workers in the workplace need to be addressed.
Meanwhile, Sis Hajah Hadiah Leen gave a presentation on the role of women in the trade union. The article on ILO Convention C183 – was also explained and hoped that the Government would ratify the convention to empower women in Malaysia.
At the end of the discussion session, Bro Andrew Lo, took the opportunity to explain to all participants about the proposed solutions to the problems faced by women as well as the suggestions put forward in preparing an effective Collective Agreement. Bro Andrew Lo, Secretary of MTUC Sarawak is very pleased and happy with the workshop. He hoped that the MTUC HQ could organize further courses that would build capacity building in Sarawak.
