In the years 2000 the International Labour Organization (ILO) will adopt a new standard for maternity protection. Since 1919 the ILO has provide protection during pregnancy and post birth for women who work. The debate about this new standard started in 1999. The achievement of meaningful standard of Maternity Protection will require sustained action and energy over a period of time. The first step to ensure that the new ILO convention for Maternity Protection possible we need you to support strongly.

Have right to access Maternity Leave without fear of losing their job.
Maintain income security while on Maternity leave.
Can access proper health care during pregnancy and post-birth
Are able to breastfeed and care for a child whilst working.

Protection for all women regardless of martial status and for all children whether born of marriage or not.
Protection for all women workers including contract worker, home worker and casual worker
Provision of adequate leave that ensures the protection of the health of the mother and her child.
Realistic income security during the leave period.
The right of a women to breastfeed in he work place.
Prohibition from dismissal from employment and other discriminatory behavior towards pregnant and nursing women
