PETALING JAYA: The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, urging him to consider having its representatives sit in 11 agencies under Human Resources and other ministries.
The memorandum was handed to the general-secretary of the Transport Workers Union, Tan Sri Zainal Rampak, who was also the former Malaysian Trades Union Congress president during a Labour Day celebration at the Transport Workers Union Building here today.
Zainal is expected to submit the memorandum to Najib on Monday.
UNI-MLC is seeking representation in the Social Security Organisation, Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Bhd, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Skills Development Fund Corporation, Employees Provident Fund, National Labour Advisory Council, Occupational Safety and Health Council, Wages Council, Industrial Relations Department, Department of Trade Union Affairs and Industrial Court.
UNI-MLC president Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said they wanted their representatives to establish harmonious industrial relations between the employers, government and workers’ union for economic growth.
“We also want to ensure workers’ welfare,” he said, adding that the smart partnership and social dialogue between the government and employers is important because it could further enhance industrial relations.
He said since its establishment 13 years ago, UNI-MLC has grown to a membership of 300,000 from 65 union groups.
