Bro J Solomon and Bro A Balasubramaniam are two (2) among five (5) MTUC members in the National Wages Consultative Council. They briefed the delegates on the role of MTUC in the success of the Minimum Wages in Malaysia, their experiences and challenges faced thereto.
Bro J Solomon proudly announced that Malaysia is the first ASEAN country that has ratified the ILO Convention 131 – Minimum Wage Fixing Convention.
He also emphasised that among others the key factor for the Workers bargaining strength, Workers Representatives must speak in one voice in a Tripartite forum.
The delegates thanked MTUC for the knowldege sharing and the mechanism of minimum wage setting, review and monitoring in Malaysia and what could be applied in the context of Myanmar and could share their knowledge to respective organisations.
