Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
The Prime Minister has recently announced a Minimum Wage of RM 1050 to take effect from 1 January 2019. Whilst appreciating the uniformity of the Minimum Wage between East and West Malaysia, the RM 130 and RM 50 increases for East and West Malaysia respectively give rise to grave concerns amongst the workers.
In view this, the MTUC along with Gabungan Bantah Gaji Minima RM 1050 will be holding a Forum to discuss the rationality of the Minimum Wage RM 1050 and its impact on workers and their families. This Forum will be addressed by eminent personalities and moderated by Prof. Nagiah Ramasamy Associate Professor – Sunway University Business School.
