Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC), represented by Bro J. Solomon -Secretary General, Bro K Soma- Asst Secretary Education of MTUC, Bro Rudy, General Council of MTUC, General Secretary of CEUPM,MRC and Bro Zul Thye, MTUC MRC Coordinator was present along with the NUTP Union and members represented by its General Secretary Bro Harry Tan Hock Huat, PJK- and other officials in the submission of a memorandum to the Chief minister of Melaka, YAB Tuan Hj Adly Bin Zahari at his residence in Bukit Peringgit, Melaka today.
A total of 112 school staff (Grade N19) in Melaka and the remaining 300 staffs in Kedah, known as the Pilot group (PR Rintis) been affected due to the termination of contract with effect from June 30, 2018.
As such the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) has taken the effort to assist them and hope that the Government will give special consideration and appropriate attention for the contract to be extended so they can be absorbed into permanent status.
MTUC fully supports the call made by NUTP General Secretary Bro Harry Tan for Government’s consideration.
Melaka is the first state to run the pilot program and followed by Kedah which saw the effectiveness of this program in helping to reduce the burden of teachers.
NUTP had successfully submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today and hope that the new government is committed to ensure that the teachers can give full attention to teach students as stipulated in the Book of Pakatan Harapan by revisiting the contract Employees terms and conditions to permanent Employees.
MTUC wish to also thank the Chief Minister of Melaka YAB Tuan Hj Adly Bin Zahari who came forward to personally receive the Memorandum from the General Secretary of NUTP Bro Harry Tan.
