Salary is the life blood of a worker’s family; whether or not there is food on the table, milk and diapers for the child, children going to school or for water and electricity in the house and to pay debts salaries is needed.
The feeling of not having money in our pockets is the most difficult and worrying moments in our lives. We have been there at some point in the journey of our lives.
We know the sufferings. Around 1,848 local workers and less then 100 migrant workers of Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd (SFISB) have not been paid their salaries regularly since October last year.
The Company; SFISB is continuously defying the Sabah government and the laws of the country. The workers; pushed to the wall, have started to picket everyday, since 8 March 2017, even today, not minding the weekend.
The workers are demanding for the pay to be paid latest by the 10th, at the least, even though the company is legally bound to pay by the 7th of the following month.
At this hour, on a Saturday the workers are still preparing banners for their picket. The workers will resume their picket on Monday.
We call on all workers in Sabah, to join the Malaysian Trades Union Congress to support the Sabah Timber Industries Employees Union while we urge the Sabah Labour Department to take immediate action to ensure the salaries are paid immediately.
