PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has condemned the deadly explosion at the Manchester Arena as a “barbaric and cowardly” attack on innocent concert-goers.
“At this time of heartbreak, Malaysia stands united with Britain.
“We must be firm, determined and ready to confront terror swiftly and decisively wherever and whenever it manifests itself. We must never surrender,” he posted on his Facebook page as he conveyed his condolences to the families and friends of those affected.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Ministry said the Education Malaysia United Kingdom and Ireland (Emuke) confirmed that there were no Malaysian students injured after Ariana Grande’s concert at the arena.
The ministry said Emuke immediately sent out a message on Facebook and WhatsApp to all student associations in Manchester and surrounding areas to check on Malaysian students.
There are 1,303 Malaysian students studying in the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford.
“Emuke will continue to periodically monitor and report any developments and advise students to be careful and inform Emuke of any updates,” the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysians residing near the site of the deadly blast to remain vigilant and heed instructions by local authorities there.
In a statement yesterday, the ministry also advised those who might have been affected by the incident to report to the Malaysian High Commission in London at 45-46 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8QT, contact +44 207 235 8033 or email mwlondon.kln@1govuc.gov.my
The ministry also conveyed its condolences to those who were affected by the attack.
