Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Malaysia Government Pensioners Club says e-Mass is the most effective system to provide medicine and medical equipment to pensioners.
SEREMBAN: The government has been asked to continue the Electronic Medical Automation Supply System (e-Mass) so that pensioners are not suddenly deprived of their medical supply.
According to the president of the 1Malaysia Government Pensioners Club (Kupekmas) Omar Osman, the club was not informed that the contract for the company responsible for supplying the medicine and medical equipment under the e-Mass system had been terminated since Feb 27.
“The contract for Syarikat Oratis Services Sdn Bhd ended, resulting in pensioners not getting their supply for medicine for heart disease, diabetes and so on. We worry about the condition of their health as they need the medicine.
“If the contract is to be continued with another company, at least inform us so that the medical supply is not suddenly cut off like this.
“We urge that the contract for this company be extended until year-end so that patients (pensioners) can make alternative preparations,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Omar said e-Mass was the best and most effective system that provided medicine and medical equipment supplies to pensioners.
Through the system, medicine can also be posted to a pensioner’s house if he or she is unable to go to the hospital to collect it, Omar said.
