Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
He said the business trend of multinational companies now was to focus on their
core businesses in their home countries and outsource non-core businesses elsewhere.
<p>"We should take advantage of the outsourcing of business," he told
a press conference at Wisma MCA here Saturday.</p>
<p>Fong said Malaysia was encouraging companies from developed countries to outsource
their services here such as call centres, education and medical centres.</p>
<p>He said that in the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), outsourcing had been identified
as a sector that had great potential in future.</p>
<p>Hence, he said, the Ministry would build more training institutes in the 9MP
to meet the demand for skilled workers by companies outsourcing their business
here.</p>
<p>The aerospace skills training provided at the Aerospace Training Institute,
which was collaborating with Boeing in designing its curriculum, was a fine
example towards this, he added.– BERNAMA
