KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) — The Public and Civil Service Employees Unions Congress (Cuepacs) has not received any complaints from contract workers in the civil service that their service would be terminated by end of this year.
Its president Datuk Azih Muda said if such a matter arose, he would have been informed earlier.
“In fact, during a series of meetings with the PSD (the Public Service Department) held previously and today, I have not been told anything about the matter,” he told Bernama when contacted, here Thursday.
He was commenting on a news portal report quoting former Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman as saying that the PSD would not extend the contract of 50,000 civil servants after Dec 31 this year.
Bernama check revealed that the news report was published on March 27, but only came to light after it went viral in recent days.
Azih said Cuepacs would continue to fight for the contract workers’ rights and would keep on holding discussions with the government and PSD to realise efforts of absorbing contract workers as permanent staff.
