ALOR SETAR, Oct 8 (Bernama) — Twenty Naza AutoMotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd former employees lodged a complaint at the state Industrial Relations Office today claiming that the company had violated certain articles in their 2014-2017 collective agreement.
The group was led by former Naza Workers Union (PEKENA) vice-president Mohammad Hanif Azmi.
He said the company had not complied with Article 10 of the agreement and claimed that PEKENA was not invited to discuss on downsizing, instead they were given 24 hours notice of termination.
On Aug 27, 255 employees were laid off to prevent bankruptcy.
“We understand the economic situation now, the currency fell, but they should have discussed the matter with us first. Most of us didn’t find jobs because of age factor,” he told reporters after filing the complaint.
Mohammad Hanif said 80 per cent of those laid off still not getting new jobs.
He also claimed that Naza had violated Article 50, which stated should the company have to do a retrenchment of employees, the company should apply the principle that those who joined the company much later should be among those to be considered to be laid off first.
“Many of us who were laid off have worked between five and 13 years and have good working performance,” he said.
