Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) express disappointment as MTUC doesn’t get the right number of representatives as board member of the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO)
We’re disappointed that the government had chosen not to bring together entities such as MTUC in representing the majority of workers by having says in SOCSO.
Thus, MTUC want the government in particular the SOCSO to review the decision not to have all four representatives from the MTUC in its board.
Previously, MTUC had four members in SOCSO board. Unfortunately, as one of the member’s term expired recently, the SOCSO had decided not to reappoint a representative from MTUC. MTUC felt that this decision is an uncalled for development from the workers’ interest perspective.
As the National Centre that representing workers of this country, MTUC want MTUC’s fourth representative to be reappointed as board member of SOCSO. This is important to protect the interest of the workers at large.
MTUC strongly felt that this is not fair and MTUC cannot bring issues related to workers, particularly employees of the private sector, should MTUC doesn’t has right representatives in both the SOCSO, it would jeopardise the interest of the workers in long run.
Regret to note that the Minister of Human Resources, did not responded to our two letters that we sent to him.
MTUC will write to the Prime Minister on this matter and will request his intervention to solve this issue and give us a guarantee that these would not reoccur in the future.
