Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
PUTRAJAYA: Local governments should take advantage of data provided by the Department of Statistics to make better policy-making decisions, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
He said the department had produced statistics up to the district level, making the data more relevant in policy-making.
“It is time we empowered local governments with local-level statistics so that they can make decisions and formulate policies based on relevant data,” he said at the launch of the department’s new mobile apps.
The MyLocalStats app, he added, provides data in the form of special infographics that can be easily understood.
Under the first phase, the data available is limited to population projections, birth and death statistics and economic growth according to districts.
