Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said the operation
would be a major task for the 300,000 Rela members in the country.

However, he did not give a hint when the operation will begin, only saying
they were in the process of making preparation for the task.

“That’s why it is important for us to carry MyKad to prove that we are
Malaysians,” he said.

Mohd Radzi said there were 1.8 million foreign workers in the country, adding
that this number was more than enough for employers in various sectors.

“There is no excuse for employers to take in illegals as the Government
has eased the application process for hiring foreign workers.

“Even for those who want to employ more than 50 people, their applications
will be processed within 24 hours,” he said.

Mohd Radzi was speaking to reporters after awarding the honorary Lieutenant-Colonel
rank to Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and the more than
20 state assemblymen at Theatrette Hall of the Wisma Negeri here yesterday.

Also present at the event was Home Affairs Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri
Aseh Che Mat.
