KUCHING, Aug 17 (Bernama) — The number of industrial accidents in the country is on the rise, said Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.
Riot said Social Security Organisation statistics revealed that 2,942 industrial accidents were recorded in January this year and the figure rose to 4,325 in February, 8,173 in March and 11,147 in April.
“Therefore I urge all occupational safety and health stakeholders in Malaysia to work together to reduce industrial accidents in the country.
“This is essential because a safe workplace will attract more foreign investors as they can maximise their investments and reduce their operation costs,” Riot said this at the opening of the 4th Borneo Conference and Exhibition on occupational safety and health 2015 here Monday.
He said studies conducted by several parties for the International Labour Organisation in 2014 revealed that 2.3 million work-related deaths occurred annually worldwide.
