Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
On the 30/6/18 the MTUC MRC KL/SEL received information from our Union counterpart, Ibu Yatini from KSBSI Indonesia and Sis Lindu Livan from ITUC MRA KL pertaining to an Indonesian Domestic Worker in Kuala Lumpur whose wages was not paid and is medically unfit to work.
On the 1-7-2018, Responding to the information given, the MTUC MRC immediatly contacted the Domestic
Worker and gathered all the relevant informations especially on her health condition.
On the 2-7-2018, With the intervention from JTK and the Police, the MTUC MRC managed to rescue the Domestic Worker and relocated her to the Indonesian Embassy shelter home.
On the 4-7-2018, the MTUC MRC SEL/KL represented by Bro Zul Thye and Bro Rudy visited the Domestic Worker at the Indonesian Embassy. She is scheduled to be repatriated back home tentatively on 5 July after all the documentations are ready and dues paid accordingly.
Meanwhile MRC will follow up with the police on the action taken against the irresponsible employer.
