Hong Kong’s contentious protection framework for foreign domestic workers is being reviewed by Jakarta officials before it is decided if Indonesians are allowed to continue working in the sector here, according to a top diplomat.
Indonesian Consul General Tri Tharyat said the framework was currently being scrutinised by his government and he supported a minimum wage pay increase to HK$5,000 for domestic workers.
“Hong Kong is still being reviewed on how your regime and regulations protect (the workers). I personally believe that Hong Kong will not be on the (ban) list. But it is not my decision. It is the decision of Jakarta,” he said.
