Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 30 (Bernama) — The implementation of the BioMedical and eVDR modules in the Foreign Workers Centralized Management System for Visa with Reference (VDR) applications which started on Jan 15 has been postponed with immediate effect.
The Immigration Department in a statement here today said the postponement was to allow the department and the Home Ministry to evaluate and fine-tune policies concerning the system.
“It is also to review feedback from the public notably employers,” the statement said.
It added that with the deferment of the FWCMS, VDR applications at Immigration counters were reopened Friday.
The department reminded that all counter transactions must run smoothly and that applications must be made by the employers themselves or authorised representatives only.
