Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
IPF President Datuk M.G. Pandithan said the move was prompted by complaints
of workers not being paid their wages and he cited an example of 30 Indian nationals
working in a factory in Johor who were neither paid nor given accommodation
despite being employed for four months.

“IPF met the factory owners to get them to pay the workers and return
the workers’ passports but nothing came out of it,” he told a press
conference here yesterday.

He said the workers would be sent back to India by next week.

On the proposed association, he said he would seek the help of the Immigration
Department and the Home Ministry to compile information on foreign workers for
the purpose of registration. – Bernama
