Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
"We are sorry over the unfortunate incident and will spare no effort to
investigate thoroughly and get to the root of the cause," group managing
director Datuk Seri Liew Kee Sin said.
<p>It is believed that a car knocked into the roadside guardrail near the site
of the disaster, the company said in a statement.</p>
<p>"We will not commence work until we have concluded a full investigation
to ensure the safety and integrity of the NKVE-Jalan Meru Link to safeguard
the interests of the public," Liew said.</p>
<p>He also apologised to road users and the public for the inconvenience caused
following the closure of the stretch between Shah Alam and the Bukit Raja interchange
of the NKVE to facilitate works to clear the road.</p>
<p>S P Setia had awarded a contract to an external contractor to construct the
7.5km NKVE-Jalan Meru Link, which connects the NKVE to Jalan Meru in Klang.</p>
<p>The link aims to facilitate and improve traffic flow and enhance the overall
infrastructure in the vicinity.
