Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
SANDAKAN, Sept 1 (Bernama) — The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services wants the government to give appropriate attention to the upgrading of 252 civil service schemes.
Its deputy president, Zainal Ismail, said appropriate attention should be given to the matter to enable affected civil servants to enjoy the upgraded scheme as soon as possible.
“Approximately 1.6 million civil servants have high hope on the upgrading of the schemes which was announced during the tabling of the 2015 Budget in October last year,” he told reporters after opening the Seminar on Consumerism and Goods and Services Tax here today.
Meanwhile, Zainal said Cuepacs would also like to call on the government to review the budget for the Housing Loan Division to help civil servants cope with the rising cost of living.
He said this was also important to enable civil servants to own a house under the 1Malaysia People Housing (PR1MA) project.
“We hope that the government will announce some good news about this during the tabling of the 2016 Budget,” he added.
