Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
TAWAU, Sept 22 (Bernama) — The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) will be holding an assembly to protest the abolition of the Housing Loan Division (BPP) for civil servants said its president Azih Muda.
Azih said the gathering would be decided by the Supreme Council in a meeting scheduled to be held soon before the tabling of the annual budget on Oct 10.
He said Cuepacs would protest any proposal for the division to be turned into a statutory body under the Finance Ministry.
“We will protest against the move if there were multiple charges imposed on borrowers by the statutory body.
“Civil servants will not be able to pay if charges for loans rose to RM7,000 and RM8,000 besides having to pay for agreement, stamp duty, legal cost, documentation and so on,” he told reporters after attending a gathering with Tawau civil servants at the Tawau Library Auditorium, here today. — BERNAMA
