A worker was killed and three were injured when a crane toppled over at a construction site in Jalan Damansara, Kampung Bukit Lanjan, near Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, this afternoon.
Fire and Rescue Department officer on site Firdaus Khan Anwat Khan said the deceased was a Chinese national.
“We received a distress call at 4.50pm and we arrived at 5.02pm. Upon arrival, we found there was a fallen crane and four victims.
“Another Chinese national was injured, along with a Burmese and and a Malaysian, who was the crane driver,” he said at a press conference on site today.
“All four were on the job at the time of the incident,” he said.
He said the deceased, Li Yi Jia, 50, was trying to stabilise the crane but had lost his footing.
“He was suspended from the crane and stuck between the metal bars. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The three others sustained light injures and were being treated at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, he said.
“The cause of the accident is under investigation,” he said.
A statement earlier from the Fire and Rescue Services said the dead worker was dangling from the crane when rescue workers arrived at the site.
The body was retrieved about 7.40pm. – January 12, 2016.
