He said,"Work to remove the debris has been completed, but PLUS (Projek
Lebuhraya Utara Selatan Bhd) needs at least two more days to resurface the lanes
heading towards Klang.
<p>"The road will be reopened for vehicles by Thursday afternoon after the
ministry’s technical committee is satisfied with the safety aspects at pier
one, which was not affected by the collapse. </p>
<p>"The public can rest assured that we’ll make sure everything is safe before
the road is reopened to traffic," he said Monday. </p>
<p>On Sunday, a portion of the NKVE-Jalan Meru elevated interchange near Bukit
Raja (3.2Km NKVE) collapsed, while under construction, injuring nine Bangladeshi
workers, three of them seriously. </p>
<p>Khaled, who is representing Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, told this
to reporters following a meeting with representatives from the Malaysian Highway
Authority, Public Works Department, North South Highway Project and the project
developer S P Setia Sdn Bhd on the incident. Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu is overseas.

<p>He said S P Setia had submitted an initial report on the incident and it showed
the collapse had occurred at pier number two involving segmental girders numbers
seven, eight, nine and 10 heading towards Klang. </p>
<p>"The technical committee will also be investigating the cause of the incident
so that we don’t rely solely on the developer’s report. </p>
<p>"The construction work at the site will be suspended for two to three
months pending outcome of investigations," he said. </p>
<p>The technical committee, comprising representatives from the Malaysian Highway
Authority, Public Works Department, North South Highway Project (PLUS) was set
up Monday to investigate the incident.
