Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
PETALING JAYA: The coming National Day on Aug 31 will be celebrated in a big way by Star Media Group and its partners.
An all-inclusive campaign with two events has been lined up for the milestone celebration, aimed at bringing Malaysians together.
The two major events under Raise the Flag are:
• Ride for Malaysia with property developer Sunsuria Bhd, to be held on July 30 at Sunsuria City in Putrajaya South, Salak Tinggi,
• #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk with property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd on Aug 27 at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam.
Star Media Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai announced that the group’s Raise the Flag campaign – which will kick off next month and stretch till Malaysia Day on Sept 16 – will be the perfect platform for true-blue Malaysians to celebrate the many colours of the nation.
The campaign, to be hashtagged #raisetheflag on social media, will encourage Malaysians to proudly display the Jalur Gemilang.
Wong said the campaign would strengthen national pride among citizens of all ages and ethnicities.
“Let us focus on the larger picture. Let us bring Malaysians together and not be sidetracked by other issues. We should put our energy and resources into taking Malaysia and Malaysians to a higher level,” he said.
He added that it was pertinent for Malaysians to highlight commonalities rather than differences.
“What binds us is that we are all Malaysians.”
Raise the Flag will also unite Malaysians in the spirit of patriotism and togetherness while fostering optimism, racial harmony, and hope for the future of the country.
The two-month campaign will also highlight the achievements of the country and Malaysians who have raised the flag high in their own fields over the past 60 years.
Their stories will be told across the group’s various platforms such as The Star newspaper, The Star Online and StarTV, as well as its Bahasa Malaysia news portal mStar and radio stations Suria FM and 988.
