Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
This press statement is in response to a statement by the President of MTUC.
The MTUC President has no locus standi to make any statement on behalf of MTUC nevertheless he has been doing so all the while ignoring the provision of the Constitution thus far. This may sound unique that the President has no constitutional powers to give press statement but that is the Constitution of MTUC.
MTUC is an NGO for trade unions and not a political party where the President has wide powers. In MTUC the President has to observe the rules of the Constitution unfortunately the current President is ignorant about it
MTUC Constitution is very clear, the Secretary General is the only official who has the constitutional powers to make statement on behalf of MTUC. The Secretary General of MTUC does not require the approval of General Council to carry out his duties according to the constitutional objects of MTUC.
This only proves that BN is interfering in the administration of MTUC through the President who is an UMNO member as he claims.
Abdul Halim’s allegation that “some online portals manipulated the statement” and that” the statement was not issued by Solomon” is a clear deception of facts and a misrepresentation.
Abdul Halim has no authority to speak on behalf of Solomon, the Secretary General of MTUC and it is definitely not a statement from NUBE. It was clearly a statement from MTUC on MTUC official letter head.
MTUC Secretary General stands by his statement as this is the voice of the Workers in Malaysia reiterates his call to the 14 Million Workers to vote for Pakatan Harapan.
