Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?

A roundtable discussion was held today with the collaboration of Solidarity Centre and facilitated by Bro K Soma, Assistant Secretary Education. There were trade union leaders, consultants, lawyers, IR Officers and students.
The Objective of the round table discussion is:
i. To obtain opinions on the necessary reforms pertaining to labor laws.
i. To strategies on the law reform in Malaysia
ii. To revisit the Malaysia – US Labour Consistency Plan
iii. Formation of a MTUC Task Group for Labour Reforms
Bro David Welsh from the Solidarity Centre gave a brief introduction on the Labour Consistency Plan while
Bro K Soma gave a brief on the background of the initiative taken by MTUC in Labour Reforms.
Participants participated very actively by providing very constructive inputs and it was a satisfying roundtable discussion.
MTUC Task Group for Labour Reform was to compile the input and draft the recommendation for the necessary process to be proposed to the government soon.
