Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho said by using the biometric system,
foreign workers whose permits had been nullified and deported due to criminal
activities and abuse of passes would not be able to re-enter the country.

In reply to Huan Cheng Guan (BN – Batu Kawan) he said: “The biometric
system has records of fingerprints and profiles of foreign workers and can detect
those with bad records at entry points.”

There are an estimated 1.9 million foreign workers in Malaysia and Tan said
the Government was aware that this had put a strain on security and harmony
in the local communities.
