Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Federal Action Council has urged youths not to fall prey to get-rich-quick schemes such as JJPTR.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said greed and stupidity drove hundreds of thousands of people to invest in JJPTR, a scheme which had been making headlines in recent weeks after the company allegedly lost US$400mil (RM1.738bil) due to a purported ‘hacking job’.
“I hope youths will not take part in such schemes as they’ll deplete one’s savings and make one go from poor to broke.
“I also urge youths not to turn to loan sharks regardless of the financial difficulties they are facing.
“I have seen countless tears shed by those who borrowed from them. Do not be involved with them,” he said at the Youth Awards ceremony and state-level National Youth Day celebration on Saturday in Batu Maung.
Instead, Zainal Abidin advised youths to seek knowledge and discover their talents in various fields and aspects.
“Our nation is young. We are barely 60 years after independence, but we’ve achieved much in economics and development,” he said.
