Malaysia is one of Asia's biggest employers of foreign labour. But recently, cases of deaths, abuse and forced labour have come to light. What is going on? Who is protecting these migrant workers?
A meeting between representatives from Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF ) represented by Ms Tan Say Pooi, Head of the National Human Resource Center Consultancy Department and Mr Muhammad Lufti, Head of Capacity and Capabality Building of the National Human Resource Center with the MTUC was held at the Wisma MTUC this morning.
MTUC was represented by Bro Mohd Jaafar Majid, MTUC Deputy President, Bro J Solomon, MTUC Secretary-General, Bro K Soma, Assistant Secretary MTUC and Bro Zul Thye, MTUC MRC Coordinator.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the proposal from HRDF on the establishment of the National Human Resource Institute (NHRI). The objectives for this establishment are :
(1) HR Profession
– To establish a framework of knowledge, practise and profesional engagement required across HR profession.
(2) Competency Framework – To provide HR Competency framework,assesment,certification and accreditation guidelines of best practises.
(3) Business Partner – To become the recognised HR partner to the policy makers and private sectors.
This establishment of NHRI will be the tripartite engagement with MEF, MTUC and MOHR.
Bro J Solomon appreciated that HRDF is providing a space for MTUC in the Tripartite discussion and as far as education and upskilling of workers are concern, all the stakeholders should be involved.
MTUC will give its full support and assistance for this initiative and is looking forward for further discussion for more understanding.
